Zoom LiveTrak L-12

My podcasting set up is centered around the Zoom LiveTrak L-12. I LOVE this piece of equipment. It is extremely versatile, and it combines so much functionality into one small mixing board. Before I got the Zoom Livetrak L-12 my podcasting set up required a lot more equipment. I had a Mackie Mixer, a Behringer analog to digital adapter (Needed to bring the sound from my board into the computer), a headphone amplifier, a Zoom h5 audio recorder, a Behringer compressor, and all the neccesary cables to connect those things.

Now I just have one Zoom Livetrak L-12 which was cheaper than all of that equipment, and it’s much easier to transport if I need to take my podcasting set up on the road. It even handles some of the jobs better than the additional equipment In my original set up. The Zoom has 5 headphone outputs with customizable mixes. The headphone amplifier I was using before only had 4 outputs and all you could control was the master volume for each output. However, the Behringer compressor/noise gate I was using offered a lot more functionality than the one knob compression on the Zoom Livetrak L-12.

Microphones

Audio Technica ATR2100 USB/XLR Dynamic Microphone

This mic produces high quality sound at a reasonable price. The ATR2100 has a standard XLR output, AND a USB output. So you can plug this microphone right into your computer, pull up your favorite recording software, and record. This mic can be used for live performances, podcasting, home studio recordings, field recordings, and voiceovers.

*I use the ATR2100 when I’m recording a podcast in a noisey location, because these dynamic mics won’t pick up as much background noise as my condensor mics. Don’t get condensor mics unless you have a quiet/sound proofed room with a compressor/noise gate and you don’t plan on taking your podcast mobile.*
